Vasa Vind commissions Åskälen wind farm

Vasa Vind has together with Dutch pension fund manager APG and London based Asper Investment Management recently commissioned the Åskälen wind farm in Jämtland county. With an installed capacity of 288 MW it is one of the largest onshore wind farms in Sweden and in Europe. The annual production amounts to nearly 1 TWh, which corresponds to the annual consumption of household electricity for more than 175,000 households.

The wind farm consists of 80 Vestas V136 3.6MW turbines. Vasa Vind has since the project was acquired continued development and optimization of the Åskälen wind farm, managed the construction works and will during operations also be responsible for the technical and economical management. In the same area, Vasa Vind last year also commissioned the Munkflohögen wind farm comprising 23 turbines.

”We are very happy to now take the project into operations together with APG and Asper. The project has benefitted from strong local support thanks to Vasa Vind’s engagement and approximately 160 annual jobs was created locally and regionally during the construction phase. We have through competence and experienced co-workers been able to deliver a complex infrastructure project, involving many different stakeholders, in accordance with plan”, says Annette Eriksson, former CEO of Vasa Vind and today Senior Advisor to the Board.

Wind power will also going forward play a crucial part in the transition to a more renewable energy mix.

“Vasa Vind continues to grow and is always looking for exciting new projects where the aim is to repeat the successes we have had with Munkflohögen and Åskälen. Focus will continuously be on high quality projects with a low cost of energy”, says Patrik Idvall, Senior Manager Business Development at Vasa Vind.
