Åskälen
About the Facility
Wind Farm
Our Åskälen wind farm consists of 80 Vestas V136-3.6 MW wind turbines that were commissioned in 2020. The total installed capacity is 288 MW. The facility is located on the hills southwest of Hammerdal, in the municipalities of Strömsund and Östersund. Vasa Vind has been involved in both the development and construction of the wind farm and owns and is responsible for its operation. The wind farm is connected to Svenska Kraftnät’s transmission substation in Midskog via a new 220 kV power line built by Jämtkraft Elnät.
The Munkflohögen wind farm, which is located directly west of Åskälen, shares the common site office that is centrally located in the northern part of Åskälen. The site office, completed during the construction of the Munkflohögen wind farm, was built by a local company using wood from the local area. The site office provides a very good working environment for site managers and wind power technicians.
Energy storage
Adjacent to the substation for the Åskälen wind farm, Vasa Vind commissioned its first energy storage facility in the spring of 2025. It consists of a battery with a capacity of 20 MW / 20 MWh. The energy storage facility helps stabilize the power grid by balancing the supply of electricity when demand is at its highest.

Several projects

Raftsjöhöjden
The Raftsjöhöjden Wind Farm consists of 11 wind turbines with a total capacity of 60.5 MW. It is located in the municipality of Strömsund in Jämtland and began operations in 2022.

Ytterberg
Ytterberg wind farm consists of 22 wind turbines with a total capacity of 44 MW, located south of Malå in Västerbotten and commissioned in 2011.
Staying in the wind farm
Within the area you can still hike, ski and snowmobile, pick berries and mushrooms, etc. However, in certain weather conditions you need to be alert and pay particular attention to the warning signs. When temperatures approach zero degrees or colder, there is a risk of ice and snow falling from wind turbines and masts. For your safety, you should avoid being near wind turbines and masts due to the risk of falling ice and snow.
There are buried cables and pipes within the wind farm. If you (as a landowner or contractor) are going to dig or carry out work with machinery within the wind farm area, it is important to contact the site manager well in advance to ensure that neither you nor the wind farm’s equipment is damaged.
If you notice a turbine noise or anything else that seems abnormal, please contact us immediately. If you have questions or other concerns, you can also reach us at Vasa Vind via:
