Vasa Vind initiates construction of Raftsjöhöjden wind farm

Vasa Vind, together with APG and Asper Investment Management, will initiate construction of the Raftsjöhöjden wind farm during the third quarter of this year. The wind farm, which is situated in the municipality of Strömsund, Jämtland County, will use eleven Cypress wind turbines from GE Renewable Energy with a total installed capacity of approximately 60 MW.

Vasa Vind will be responsible for construction management and will during operations handle the technical and financial management. Raftsjöhöjden becomes the third part of the 400 MW wind power cluster Vasa Vind is building in the region.

“We are very happy that we are now starting the construction of Raftsjöhöjden wind farm despite a challenging market. Favourable characteristics of the project and constant optimization have been important success factors. We are also delighted to expand our relationship with GE on this project”, says Patrik Idvall, Senior Manager Business Development at Vasa Vind.

The eleven Cypress turbines that GE Renewable Energy will supply for the Raftsjöhöjden wind farm will have a rotor diameter of 158 meters and a 5.5 MW generator. Eight turbines will have a hub height of 141 meters while the three others will be 121 meters high.

Peter Wells, GE’s CEO of Onshore Wind in Europe, commented: “We’re delighted to partner with Vasa Vind on this project and we are thrilled they’ve selected our Cypress platform. As the most powerful onshore wind turbine currently operating commercially, Cypress is ideally suited to contribute to the transition to a 100 percent renewable electricity system in Sweden.”

The Cypress onshore wind platform enables significant energy production improvements and increased efficiency in service ability. The two-piece blade design also permits blades to be manufactured at even longer lengths, improved logistics and more siting potential.

Stenger & Ibsen Construction will be responsible for the construction of all other infrastructure on site. The construction of the wind farm will commence within short and is expected to be put into commercial operation during the second half of 2021.
